Difficulties Faced by EFL University Students in Translating English Newspaper Headlines into Arabic: A Case Study of the Faculty of Education ,Hantoub, University of Gezira, Sudan

الملخص

Translation as linguistic activity implies rendering the meaning from one language into another in order to transfer information and knowledge as well as to bridge the gaps between nations. This study aimed to investigate the difficulties faced by EFL university students in translating newspaper headlines, to determine the sources of these difficulties and to find out appropriate ways to tackle the difficulties. The study followed the descriptive analytical method. The study used two tools for data collection: A diagnostic test and a questionnaire. The sample of the study consisted of (20) students from the Faculty of Education-Hantoub- Batch (38) , they were selected randomly from (90) students, who sat for the test and they were selected purposively for their inattention to the courses of translation. Also the study included (12) lectures from different universities who teach translation. The result of the test and the questionnaire were analyzed by (SPSS). The study reached many finding, the most important ones were: (92%) of the students encountered many difficulties in translating newspaper headlines. These difficulties were attributed to (92%) of the students use literal translation, in addition to(92%) of the students unawareness of the style and features of newspaper headlines. And (91%) of the students encountered difficulties in translating idiomatic expressions into Arabic. The study recommended that literal translation should be avoided because it produces inaccurate translation, students should be trained to get the exact equivalence. Also it recommended that translating idiomatic expressions is highly demanding and the students should be directed to avoid literal translation. The study conducted suggestions for further studies about the difficulties encountering university students in translating English idiomatic expressions into Arabic and Comparative study between English and Arabic style of newspaper headlines.

الترجمة بوصفها نشاطا لغويا تتضمن ترجمة المعنى من لغة إلى أخرى وذلك للتقريب بين الأمم ولتبادل المعلومات وسد الفجوة في التواصل بين الشعوب . هدفت الدراسة إلى التحقق من الصعوبات التي تواجه طلاب اللغة الانجليزية بالمستوى الجامعي في ترجمة عناوين الأخبار ومعرفة الأسباب وراء هذه الصعوبات وإيجاد طرق مناسبة لمعالجتها . اتبعت الدراسة المنهج الوصفي التحليلي . استخدمت الدراسة أداتين: الاختبار التشخيصي والاستبانة لجمع المعلومات.تكونت عينة الدراسة من(02) طالبة من كلية التربية حنتوب الدفعة (38تم اختيارهن من عشوائيا من عدد (90) طالبة ، جلسن للاختبار التشخيصي وقد تم اختيارهن قصدا بسبب اهمالهن مقررات الترجمة . كما اشتملت الدراسة على عينة تكونت من ( 00) من أعضاء هيئة التدريس من عدد من الجامعات الذين يقومون بتدريس الترجمة.تم تحليل البيانات بواسطة استخدام برنامج الحزم الإحصائية للعلوم الاجتماعية SPSS)). توصلت الدراسة إلى عدة نتائج من أهمها : (20%) من الطالبات يواجهن صعوبات متعددة في ترجمة عناوين الأخبار ، وقد نجمت معظم هذه الصعوبات عن استخدام (20%) من الطالبات الترجمة الحرفية إضافة إلى عدم معرفة (20%) من الطالبات بأسس وقواعد ترجمة عناوين الأخبار.(20%) من الطالبات يواجهن صعوبات في ترجمة التعابير الاصطلاحية الي العربيه. (38%) من الطالبات يجدن صعوبة في إيصال المعنى المكافئ المناسب مما يسهم في عدم إظهار المعنى المقصود . توصي الدراسة بتجنب استخدام الترجمة الحرفية التي تنتج ترجمة لا يستقيم بها المعنى ، تصميم منهج الترجمة بالمستوى الجامعي بعنايه وأن يحتوي على أهداف تعليمية هادفة الى اجادة أسس وقواعد ترجمة عناوين الاخبار الى العربية، تدريب الطلاب على إيجاد المعنى المكافئ المناسب مما يسهم في إظهار المعنى المقصود . توصي الدراسة أيضا بضرورة ترجمة التعابير الإصلاحية وإيجاد البديل المكافئ لها وعدم استخدام الترجمة الحرفية . تقترح الدراسة إجراء المزيد من الدراسات حول المشاكل التي تواجه دارسي اللغة الانجليزية في المستوى الجامعي في ترجمة التعابير الاصطلاحية ، مقارنة أسلوب ترجمة عناوين الأخبار بين اللغة العربية واللغة الإنجليزية
