الملخص
This study was conducted on two soils of different texture from Gezira and Soba areas. The effect of three amendments namely Gypsum, Molasse and Gum on hydraulic conductivity (HC) was investigated. The amendments were applied by mixing with soil and dissolve in suspension with flowing water. The amendments were applied at the following rates: 4.5, 9 and 18 ton gypsum/fed, 5.9, 12 ton gum/fed and 1%, 2% and 3% molasse/water in volume at three wetting and drying cycles. Electrical conductivity (EC), sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) and the soil reaction (pH) of the effluent were measured for all treatments, and all these parameters were measured in Soba soil paste after the third cycle. Gypsum resulted in a significant (P =603; 0.05) increase in HC in both Soba and Gezira soil relative to the control for all treatments. Molasse resulted in an increase in HC compared to the control in Soba soil and the increment was found to be not significant in the second cycle when the first concentration was used in the second method, and when the 2nd concentration was used in the 1st application method. In Gezira soil, molasse resulted in a slight rise in HC compared to the control and it was not significant in the 3rd cycle when the 1st concentration and the 1st application method was used, and in the 2nd cycle when the 1st concentration and 2nd application method was used. However, the other treatments gave a significant (P =603; 0.05) increment in HC compared to the control. In Soba soil, HC was increased with gum addition over control. The increase was found to be significant (P =603; 0.05), in the 1st cycle when each of the 2nd and 3rd concentrations were used for each of the two application methods, while the other treatments gave a non-significant increment. Likewise, gum caused an increase in HC in Gezira soil. The increasing was found to be significant (P =603; 0.05) in the 1st cycle when each of the 2nd and 3rd concentrations for each of the two application methods was used. In the 2nd cycle, the increasing was significant (P =603; 0.05) when the 3rd concentration was used in each of the two application methods. In the 3rd cycle, the increasing was significant (P =603; 0.05) when the 3rd concentration was used in the 2nd application method, while the other treatments resulted in a non-significant increase. Each of the three concentrations of each amendment increased EC, and SAR in the leachate compare to the leachate of the control in both soils. The results of Soba soil ECe indicated anon significant difference from the ECe values of the control on addition of gypsum.Gypsum at different concentrations, gave adecline in soil pH compared with that of the control and this was more pronounced with the 3rd concentration in each of the two application methods. Similarly, gypsum treated samples gave lower SAR values relative to control and it was more obvious at each of the 2nd and 3rd concentrations in the 1st application method. Molasse gave a non-significant decrease in ECe values compared with control at all levels . Addition of molasse resulted in adecline in pH (paste) relative to control. This decrease was significant (P =603; 0.05) at the 3rd concentration in the 1st application method, at all concentrations in the 2nd application method. Each of the three concentrations of molasse resulted in a non-significant decrease in SAR of the soil paste compare to the control in each of the two application methods. Applied gum resulted in a significant (P =603; 0.05) decrease of ECe at the 2nd concentration in the 1st application method and at the 2nd and 3rd concentration at the 2nd application method. Also gum treatment resulted in a significant (P =603; 0.05) decrease in pH (paste) relative to control. SAR was decreased by gum significant at the 3rd concentration in case of the 1st application method. Generally, for the two soils all amendments increased hydraulic conductivity in the following order: conc 3 > conc 2 > conc 1 > control. The value of HC is greater in the first cycle, followed by second cycle then the third cycle. Mixing amendment with soil showed a higher HC values compared with the dissolution of the amendment in the flowing water. The effect of amendment on HC at the three different cycles for both Soba and Geezer soil showed the same trend.
