Essential oils have important antibacterial activities and can be a successful substitute for antibiotics which show their ineffectiveness against resistant microorganisms. This led us to evaluate the antibacterial activity of the essential oil of the wild carrot extracted from the flowers and another from the seeds by different extraction methods which are hydrodistillation and steaming, respectively. The oil yield was 0.09% for the first ET and 0.4% for the second. The aromatogram method tested for the three bacterial strains (E. coli, P. aeruginosa and S. aureus) showed that noessential oil gave an effect on P. aeruginosa. E coli was much more sensitive to the action of essential oil in flowers while S. aureus was more sensitive to industrial essential oil. Indeed, the latter would exert on this strain a great bacteriostic action. This effect could be due to certain antibacterial active ingredients found in the plant and probably in essential oil such as terpenoids.
