- The anorectal malformations are anomalies of the extremity’s caudal of the digestive tract, they are due to a malfunction of the embryonic development and they are often accompanied by other malformations. Their frequency is 1 per 5000 births. The aim of our retrospective study conducted between 2009 and 2010, in the pediatric surgery department of the University Hospital Mohammed VI, is to analyze the epidemiological characteristics, diagnosis and treatment of the anorectal malformations. Our series includes 29 patients (16 boys and 13 girls), with sex ratio of 1,23. The children’s age is ranged between 1 day and 1 year (average of 32 days). The results show that the lower forms are more common (44.83%) than the high (37.93%) and intermediate forms (17.24%). Neonatal bowel obstruction, vomiting and meconium per urethra are the most common clinical manifestations in our context. Clinical examination, the pen test and the invertography are sufficient for the diagnosis. The lower forms are cured immediately by an anoplasty YV, the high and intermediate forms are operated by the use of Pena’s technique after a colostomy in the neonatal period. The prognosis of the lower anorectal malformations is very good, but the urinary incontinence represents the major problem of the treatment of high anorectal malformations.
