الملخص
The study was conducted at New Halfa Agricultural Scheme toevaluate the machinery services management in the main workshop, and accordingly to suggest improvements to the present state afterinvestigating the problems that adversely affect farm machineryservices in the Scheme. A survey was carried out in the mainworkshop, other farm shops and in the field to collect data about theefficiency and performance of machinery and their averages repair andmaintenance costs during the last four years (1999-2002), and alsoabout the personnel recruited to take care of them, tools andequipment used, stock control procedures and types of buildings usedin the main workshop sections.Analysis of data indicated that about 72%of wheeled andtracked tractors and about 78% of agricultural implements were out ofwork due to unavailability of spare parts and improper managementand maintenance of machinery. Also it was observed that operators, mechanics and engineers were not adequately trained to do theirparticular jobs properly, and about 44% of operators and mechanicswere idle, and therefore increasing the operating costs.Types of buildings, roofing and siding materials used weresufficient in providing better work conditions for services personnel. The workshop was well equipped with basic tools and equipment, andalso with specialized power equipment, but hand tools used are notgenuine parts and usually lead to lose of time and improper executionof work. Stock control procedures used in spare parts and suppliesstores were efficient in keeping stores organization under closecontrol. Accurate estimation of repair and maintenance costs of farmmachinery was difficult because accurate records over the lifetime of amachine are usually not readily available. In this study the estimatedrepair and maintenance costs were greatly influenced by the age andannual hours of use of machines.Suggested measures to improve the present state of farmmachinery services include; improved training programs for theoperators and mechanics, supply of sufficient spare parts to keepmachines always in work, execution of trade-in programs and usingtheir scrap values in overhauling of broke down machines and gradualreplacement of old machines to guarantee high annual hours of use ofmachines and reduce the costs of farm operations and then increaseproductivity per unit area and time.
