الملخص

The upper respiratory tract infection is considered as one of the most common diseases that affects human health with consequence of many complications. Although there is very high response to commonly used antibiotics associated with throat infection therapy, yet, increased number of some clinical cases that are not responding to antibiotics were observed. The objective of the current study wasto isolate bacteria which cause throat infection in ENT Teaching Hospital at Madani, the research also aimed at testing sensitivity of isolated organisms against commonly used at antibiotics. In this investigation, a prospective cross -sectional study approach(between November and December 2014) has been adopted, isolation of bacteria and their antibiotic sensitivity were made by blood and nutrient agar and single disk of antibiotic, respectively. Out of 100 samples throat swabs that collected from patients with clinical findings suggestive for throat infections before antimicrobial treatment, 45% were found positive for one isolates of bacteria. The causative agents were identified among these groups under study and their distribution in age and sex and location.. Identified bacteria included Staphylococcus aureus(60), S.pyogenes (13,3%), S.pneumoniae (6.7%) , and gram positive bacilli indicative for Corynebacterium diphtheriae (20%), It was concluded that most sensitive antibiotics were erythromycin, ceftriaxone, cefuroxime, and ciprofloxacin. The study recommends throat swabs should be taken at routine especially in clinical cases that are not responding to commonly used antibiotics. Further studies on resistance of Staph aurus for Cefaclor and penicillin is highly recommended.
