ترجمة الملخص
The Eastern Part of the Mediterranean Sea Basin was of great importance in the events of the late MiddleAges. This part encompassed the coasts of Egypt, The Levantand the eastern part of the southern coasts of Minor Asia.At that time, a lot of events happened in this area after the coming of the Crusaders. The paper tackles this part of the world ranging in time from AynJaloutbattle to Taymourlank invasion (658-808 H / 1260-1405 A.D.). What distinguished this era is the many forces and events which occurred in this area. The crises of those events was when Al-Magoul invaded the area and when the Mamlouk succeeded in confronting them in AynJalout battle (658 H / 1260 A.D.).The distribution of forces in the area has changed due to this battle and the Mamlouk became the principal and dominant force in the Eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea after their success in facing the recurrent attempts of Al-Magoul to occupy the region and also after their success in freeing The Levantand Minor Asia’scoasts from the Crusaders and the Armani. Due to these reasons, it is necessary to study the development of this era in a separate paper since previous papers dealt witheach force in the region by its own. This paper, however, deals with an entire area, with its intermingling and interacting events. It is a critical and a complicated piece of work because there are numerous fighting forces. Add to it the fact that a lot of events such as occupation, liberation and the upcoming of new forces took place. This paper is divided into five chapters. Each chapter touches upon the relationship of the Mamlouk –as they are the dominant force –with other forces. First, I introduced the resources and references, then I provided a background to the region and the distribution of forces. The first chapter talks about the relationships between Al-Magoul and the Mamlouk and their fighting against each other from AynJalout battle (658 H / 1260 A.D.) until signing apeace treaty in 723 H / 1323 A.D. This chapter was divided into units according to the reign years of the Mamlouk kings who confronted Al-Magoul. This chapter also touches upon the coalition attempts between Al-Magoul and Europe against the Mamlouk. The second chapter talks about the military operations of the Mamlouk against the Crusaders in the coast of The Levant, which ended after thirty yearsin liberating the coast and dismissing the Crusaders in 690 H / 1291 A.D. This chapter also talks about the European piracy of the Mamlouk coasts and the most prominent of which is the Cyprus invasion of Alexandria in 767 H / 1375 A.D.The third chapter talks about the relationship of the Mamlouk with the third part, namely Minor Armenia Kingdom in Kilikiaregion. It also talks about the establishment of this kingdom and its role in the events of the Mediterranean Seaeastern part at that time and its relations with its neighbors. After that, the researcher talks in details about the Mamlouk assaults against this kingdom until it was eliminated. The fourth chapter was dedicated to talk about the international changes in the region in the late eighth and the beginning of the ninth century of Hijra(the late fourteenth century and the beginning of the fifteenth century A.D. ). The most important change was the establishment of the MamloukState and the accompanying disturbances, especially in The Levant. One of these changes also was Taymourlank invasion to Minor Asia and its results, which caused a lot of changes in the MiddleEast. This paper does not tackle the political aspects only because it touches upon the economic aspects as well –but not economy in the broad sense of the word –as this is a wide domain and needs separate studies. This paper tackles the political economy, Di.e. the effect of economy on the international policy. So, chapter five views the most important trade centers and routes, exchanging goods and the international trade forces and their relationships with the political and military forces. In the Conclusion, the results which the researcher came up with were viewed and the appendixes, resources and references which the researcher used were listed at the end of this paper.
