الملخص

Due to the present day level of using ground water source for meeting the high demands of Agricultural and Economical growth and the rising standards of living the quality of drinking water was not a priority as much as it's availability in the Sudan. In Khartoum state the lack of a proper sanitation system (except at some areas) lead to the use of septic-tanks-sewage system. From the geology and hydrogeology of the two selected regions in Khartoum state (Burri - Al Riyadh ... Algeraif), and ( Al Shaggara - Wad Ageib), it is shown that there are no geological barriers between the upper aquifer zone, which is used as a sewage disposal site and the lower aquifers, where drinking water from bore holes is drawn. This indicates a probable problem of contamination may exist. This is evidenced by the chemical and bacteriological analysis that proved positive presence of E. coli bacteria in ground water. Although it is not hazardous, yet it might be significant if the available conditions prevail in future. It is recommended that a proper sewage sanitation system in Khartoum state should be adopted. Monitoring of the chemical and bacteriological contents of the ground water should be made in addition to this, drinking water stations should be protected against any maluses.
