ترجمة الملخص

The present study measured the effectiveness of Agricultural field demonstration on improving the level of farmers’ knowledge. The study targeted vegetable farmers in Jenin district. A sample of vegetable’s farmers from different villages including: Qabatiah, Birqueen, Maithaloon, Aljalameh, Dier Abudaief and Kufr Dan was taken during the period of Jan 2008 and April 2009. Descriptive analysis method was used throughout the study. A questionnaire was prepared for this purpose. The questionnaire consisted of 68 questions in five domains. The domains were: Field demonstration, reason for the lack of extension fields, the impact of extension fields on farmers’ behavior, and farmers’ attitude of demonstration fields as an extension means. A statistical correlation between the different domains and farmer’s socioeconomic variables was conducted. The reliability coefficients of the questionnaire ranged between 0.698 and 0.861 with a total coefficient value of 0.871. The study showed that a high percentage of farmers (88%) preferred demonstration fields to be close and easy to reach by them, in addition, the study indicated that the farmers were equally reacted with demonstration and control trials. Ninty percent of the surveyed sample indicated farmer confidence in demonstration fields as an extension means as they benefited from such demonstrations in aiding them to select suitable cultivated varieties. The study also showed that 84% of the surveyed sample benefited from demonstration fields in improving crop production. 80% indicated that most of the demonstration fields are conducted through the private sector. It also indicated a weak cooperation between private and public sectors. In conclusion, the study showed that there is a need to strengthen the cooperation between both the private and the public sectors, this will hopefully help in a wider implications of demonstration fields as a major extension means. Therefore, this will result in a better farmer knowledge and skills.
