الملخص
Muglad basin, which is the largest and most important oil-producing basin of Sudan, is trending NW – SE. It is a part of west and central Africa rift system (WCARS), which provides an opportunity to explore a spectrum of relationships between initial tectonic extension and later compressional inversion. The study uses Heglig 3D seismic data to carry a detailed structural interpretation. Seismic data quality within the interested zones is good. Five synthetic seismograms are generated. Seismic data interpretation is carried out in every second line. Also, the study uses Heglig 3D seismic data to derive five seismic attributes to predict Aradeiba main sand and Bentiu 1A reservoirs properties. After cross plotting, dominant frequency and arc length are combined to generate the class grid. The study proves that seismic attributes combination is better than predicting reservoirs properties using single attribute approach. Structural interpretation clarifies that the area comprises a series of tilted blocks, stepping down towards the southwest. The majority of the faults are normal one. The study classifies faults into five classes according to the fault type, dip, and strike. Inversion tectonics, which is defined as the compressional deformation of a former extensional basin, has an important effect on aspects of petroleum systems. From seismic data, many evidences show that Heglig area has experienced inversion tectonics. These evidences are the thicker sedimentary packages of the inverted structures, well pronounced small reverse fault, and unconformity between pre-inverted and post-inversion sediments. Sonic velocity analysis demonstrates that Heglig inverted structure is characterized by faster velocity compared to the unaffected structures. Maturity profile for the source rock of Heglig inverted structure indicates a shallow depth to oil generation window with respect to the unaffected structures. The study proposes timing of Heglig inversion as Santonian. It is proved to be coincident in time with compression events related to global tectonics. The tectonic inversion in Heglig area created a four-way dip closed structure and that is the main reason for Bentiu 3A reservoir to be an oil-bearing reservoir.
