- Through this study, the researcher concluded that Mao Tse-Tung was a leader with military and political savvy, able to lead the peasants and the Chinese Communist Party to victory over their rivals from the Kuomintang. He was a thinker and theorist, aiming to develop an intellectually autonomous form of communism. In spite of these positive features, he was also a dictator when dealing with the maximum of his political opponents while holding power. Mao Tse-Tung became the maker of a great country, China, transforming it from a state affected by colonial privileges into a strong state at the apex of Asian countries and the world. Writing about world figures who are not confined to their regional environment gives an understanding of the modus operandi of history. It highlights the main points of historical development and shows how personal experiences intersect with world events. Mao Zedong, as a subject of study, exemplifies a character who played a key role in shaping history, unlike figures who were only minor participants. The study aims to understand the impact of political and colonial factors on the Far Eastern countries between World Wars I and II, and how Mao Tse-Tung developed his policies and actions during this period. This includes his participation in the 1911 Revolution, the May Fourth Movement of 1919, the founding of the Chinese Communist Party, the Long March, and the victory in the Chinese Civil War in 1949. Mao Tse-Tung was not seeking power for personal gain; he genuinely believed in the Communist cause and joined the Communist Party to serve as a savior for his country and its people. Had he sought power for himself, he might have joined the Kuomintang, which had greater popularity and direct access to power at that time. Mao invented a new type of communist ideology, relying on peasants in the revolution rather than the industrial labor-based communism created by Karl Marx and Engels. This model of communism set Mao apart from other Communist leaders, leaving a unique imprint on the world and serving as inspiration for other leaders who tried to apply his thought and theory. Mao was able to alter the global balance of power after World War II, creating a fundamental shift in the geopolitical equation, with his 1949 victory positioning China as a central force alongside the Soviet Union in Europe and the United States in America. Domestically, Mao was not only a leader seeking power but also a visionary who implemented numerous projects to develop his country. While some policies fully realized his communist ideals, others achieved partial success, particularly in industry and agriculture. Some consider Mao a dictator, but this study shows that he exercised authoritarian control mainly over political opponents. Regarding the Chinese people, he liberated them from slavery and feudalism, granting civil rights and freedom, particularly to peasants. His agricultural reforms laid the foundation for industrial mechanization and economic development that China benefited from in subsequent years. In foreign policy, Mao succeeded in establishing an independent path for China, removing the country from vassalage, external privileges, and colonial interventions that had begun since the Opium Wars of 1838. Mao’s diplomatic policies toward the Soviet Union emphasized independence rather than blind allegiance. The subsequent wars and crises eventually led the United States and other nations to recognize the regime he established in 1949.
