الملخص
In today’s competitive industries, controlling employee turnover has become a major concern for organizations across different sectors. In this vein, practitioners dedicate tremendous amount of resources to understand and mitigate this response. Considering the regional attention towards wellbeing and work-life balance, understanding talent departure has become a main interest for competing organizations. The same is applicable to the construction sector worldwide. Nevertheless, there was no clear empirical evidence on the factors affecting civil engineers’ turnover in the context of the construction sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain. A conceptual model was developed, data was collected through surveying 90 civil engineers from the construction sector in Bahrain. The relationship of different independent variables classified under the nature of the job such as low pay, poor work environment, low status, physical requirements, distance between work and home, low skill, and less fulfilling job profile with the dependent variable turnover intentions were investigated. The findings of the research suggest that poor work environment, low status, physical requirements, low skill, and less fulfilling job have a direct impact on turnover intentions. On the other hand, other factors such as low pay, and distance between work and home were found insignificant. The research presents several theoretical contributions and practical applications. It enhances understanding of the connection between the factor related to the nature of the job and turnover intentions. Additionally, this study is pioneering in the Kingdom of Bahrain, offering a unique perspective in this context. Moreover, it provides valuable insights for practitioners on factors to predict turnover and improve civil engineer’s retention, thereby creating more stable construction firms in the Kingdom of Bahrain
