The study that we have at hand, “The Palestinian Left Movements after Oslo”aims at making the researchers and the concerned aware of the reality of thesemovements that have played, since their establishment, an important, effectiveand distinguished role in the political, struggle and social activities of thewhole Palestinian national movement. These days, however, the Leftmovements face a real crisis that has negatively affected the reality of boththe National and the Palestinian society. This crisis has made them move backmany steps and caused a political and social confusion in the Palestiniansociety.The study is also an attempt to analyze the reality of the Palestinian Leftmovements at a significant and serious juncture, the Oslo and the post-Oslostage, in the life and history of the Palestinian people. The study focuses onthe roles of three main left movements, namely: The Palestinian People’sParty (which is an extension of the Palestinian Communist Party), the PopularFront of the Liberation of Palestine and the Democratic Front of theLiberation of Palestine.The study also attempts to answer a number of questions in four chapters. Thefirst chapter focuses on the rise of the “Palestinian Left Movements” bydiscussing the rise of the above mentioned factions and their various strugglestages.The second chapter focuses on the “Attitude and Roles of the Palestinian LeftMovements”. It discusses the reality in which the Left movements livedbefore and after signing the Oslo agreement. Then it presents the positionsand the roles of the Left movements in four important issues: the PeaceProcess, the Palestinian National Authority, the means of resistance and theirrelationships with the Palestinian masses.The third chapter focuses on “the Crisis of the Palestinian Left Movementsand its Causes”. It discusses this crisis and its objective, intellectual,organizational, political and social causes and their reflections on the threementioned Leftist powers.The fourth chapter focuses on “the Future and the Desired Roles of the Palestinian Left Movements”. It discusses the future of the Left movements asseen by analysts, observers and the concerned. It also discusses the attemptsmade to unificate these movements, their renaissance requirements and thedesired roles that they must play.The study has reached some important results. The Palestinian LeftMovements suffer from a real crisis that made them lose their effective andinitiative roles, especially after the signing of the Oslo agreement and theestablishment of the Palestinian National Authority. Moreover, the Leftmovements did not take advantage of the transition that has occurred in thePalestinian National Movement and did not deal with the important results ofthis transition. This matter has deepened the crisis and even made it worse.The most important recommendations of the thesis are: the Palestinian Leftmovements must recognize and understand the crisis, as this is the only wayto emerge from it. In addition, they must work hard to unify their powers,reorganize their ranks and reconsider the realism of their intellectualdoctrines, their relationships with the masses and the vitality of their politicaland social agenda
