Introduction:Dental unit water quality is an important matter as the patients and dental staff are subjected to this water and its spray during the different therapeutic procedures.Dental unit waterlines are a environment for biofilm bacteria exist in , or in patient mouth (reverse way)because of the low flew rate, and long term rest period. The mentioned biofilm can cause contamination in supplying water, or increase its contamination if it is contaminated itself.Aims: The aims of this study were to investigate the biological integrity of the dental unit water supply (public water or so called opened system –reservoir or so called closed system), to investigate also the bacterial and fungal contamination in dental unit waterlines, and evaluate the 20 dental clinics in which the dental units draw the supplying water from reservoirs (closed systems).In the second part, 160 water samples were sampled from 40 dental units (20 units in dentistry –Damascus university, and 20 units in private clinics). The samples were sampled from the supplying water, , triple syringe, and cup filler of every dental unit.In the third part the efficacy peroxide, sodium hypochlorite, , - evaluated. The mentioned applied by means of the disinfection bottle exist in the modern , and retained for 12 hours; 20 dental units were included in this part, and the water samples were sampled from the supplying water, disinfecting, after disinfecting. of flushing as a reduce bacterial count was also evaluated in the same method, and compared with the four disinfectants.The water samples were cultured, and the total bacterial count was done.Data were analyzed by the computer software SPSS version 13 by means of ,Student's t-test, Pearson Correlation Coefficient, ANOVA, . total bacterial count in the dental units water supply from reservoirs higher than the total bacterial the dental units water supply water (p<0.001), and the total p<0.001); the studied disinfectants had the same full efficacy in reducing total bacterial count (p≈0), but significantly higher efficacy of flushing, that reduce also the total bacterial count (p≈0).Conclusions:The current study revealed that the closed system is more causative of dental water contamination, also revealed that dental units water is highly contaminated above the medically accepted levels, and hydrogen peroxide, sodium hypochlorite, , and - full disinfecting efficacy to control the mentioned contamination.
