- Thyroid diseases are disorders of the gland that are explained by a disorder of the secretion of thyroid hormones, it particularly affects adult women. During pregnancy, thyroid dysfunctions can lead to harmful consequences for the mother and the fetus. The objective of this study is to describe the women with thyroid dysfunction during pregnancy in the wilaya of El-Oued. The study reveals a high prevalence of hypothyroidism among pregnant women, affecting 81.48% of patients, with 46% of initially healthy women developing thyroid complications during pregnancy. Family history plays a significant role, with 74% of participants having a history of thyroid-related issues. Women with hypothyroidism experience more obstetric complications, such as miscarriages and gestational hypertension. A link is also observed between elevated body mass index (BMI) and hypothyroidism. It is crucial to promote systematic screening for thyroid disorders and ensure regular follow-up for diagnosed patients, as a significant proportion remains hypothyroid after treatment. Thus, a multidisciplinary approach is vital for maternal and fetal health.
