Assessing The Speaking Skill Among EFL Learners The Case of Third- Year Licence Students at the University of Tlemcen

الملخص

This current study aims to investigate the assessment of students’ speaking skill at theEnglish department of Tlemcen University, case of third year EFL students. The mainpurpose underlying this work is to gather data about the speaking assessment practiceswithin EFL learners and to examine the effectiveness of teachers ‘techniques ofassessment in improving their speaking abilities. To carry out this research andconfirm our hypotheses, Two questionnaire are administered, one for teachers of oralexpression and another for the third year students at the Department of English atuniversity of Tlemcen. The collected information was analyzed both qualitatively andquantitatively. The data collected of this study shows that the assessment practicesadopted by teachers of oral expression are effective in developing students’ speakingperformance. It also reveals that teachers focus on both accuracy and fluency inassessing the students’ speaking abilities. Finally this study aims at suggesting somestrategies, techniques and procedures that may help teachers to assess speaking skill.
