الملخص
Experimental work on the stability of jet fuels and n-decane containing nitrogen compounds was conducted. Accelerated and ambient storage stability tests were carried out to study sediment formation, which depends on nitrogen compound structure, diluent type, and storage conditions. Air, temperature, dissolved oxygen, and light accelerate sediment formation, while removing oxygen reduces it. Carboxylic acids act as accelerators, and phenols act as inhibitors. The reaction involves free radical oxidative self-condensation of nitrogen compounds with low activation energy. Sediment characterization was done using elemental analysis, infrared, and mass spectroscopy. Lower O/C ratios indicated oxidation as a key factor in jet fuel instability. About 25 possible compounds were identified, including 2,5-dimethylpyrrole sediments. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and computer programming were used to analyze molecular structural parameters of fuel samples with varying paraffinic and aromatic constituents.
