الملخص
There are some laboratory methods used to extract oil and to determine its content in plant samples of these methods: the soxhelt, steam distillation and cold extract. The process of determination itself is very important in the chemical, nutritional and biological field. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficiency of the centrifuge device (CD) for extracted oil in sunflower and ground seeds sample. The CD (model: 80-1, Made in China). About one kg of each of sunflower and groundnut seeds (known varieties) from the local market, Wad Medani, Gezira State, Sudan. The seeds were crushed and kept in plastic bags (to prevent absorption of oil) for the extraction purposes in Faculty of Engineering and Technology, University of Gezira. The samples were prepared in 2 g for each and were rolled carefully in filter papers. Small tubes were prepared with diameter less than that of the CD tubes), small and thin plastic pieces were fixed over these tubes, which were placed inside the CD tubes over which the rolled samples were put and small cotton pieces were also put over these rolled samples. The medium speed of the device (2000 rpm) was used. The idea is to put 12 ml of hexane solvent on the cotton piece over the samples four times during the centrifuge test period. Three intervals (5, 3 and 2 minutes) for operating the device on were used. After which the device was shut off completely, and put on after reloading of the hexane solvent on each sample again. The estimation of the oil content was depended on the weight of the sample before and after the extraction. The efficiency of the device was determined by comparing the CD results with that of the soxhlet. The CD showed efficiency about 100% in determination of oil content in the used seed samples during all time intervals. According to the efficiency extracted by the CD in determination oil content, in addition to reduction in time and solvent needed, the study recommends continuing work in adopting the CD and also studying the characteristics of the yielded oil in comparison to the oil yielded from the other common extraction methods.
