الملخص
Malaria remained the major health problem worldwide with increased morbidity and mortality. Malaria especially P.falciparum can cause various complications involving various systems of the body. Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation is one of this complication. This study was carried out in kassala hospital in Kassala State, it is main objective is to evaluate the coagulation abnormalities in the malaria patients using the basic coagulation profile (PT APTT and D- dimer). 75 individuals were included in this study according to including and excluding criteria; 50 were malaria patients and 25 were healthy individuals as control group other twenty five healthy individual were selected as control group. The diagnosis of malaria was confirmed by thick blood film technique, stained with Giemsa stain for malaria parasite and the malaria parasite density was determined according to the WHO criteria. The data was analyzed by using statistical methods (SPSS version 17). The results of this study showed that there is coagulation abnormality state in malaria infected patient when compared with control in PT the mean in patients was 15.574 and in control 14.152 with P value (0.000), in INR 1.200 in patients and 1.067 in controls with P value (0.000), in D-dimer the mean in patients was 1900.38 and in controls was 300.08 with P value (0.0000), the only exceptions is APTT; there was no significant difference between the patients and the control group in APTT (P value 0.410). Also the results showed that there was positive correlation between the malaria parasite density and coagulation abnormality. The study recommend that the basic coagulation investigations should be admitted as routine test in all patients with severe P. falciparum malaria.
