study aimed to identify the effectiveness of using short stories in improving speaking and listening skills among 2nd Year students at Hebron University. To achieve this, a quasi-experimental design was used with a single group was employed. The study population consisted of all 2nd Year English language students at Hebron University, totaling (77) students. A purposive sample of (18) students was selected. A pre-test was administered to measure their levels of speaking and listening skills. They were then taught using the short story strategy. Afterward, a post-test was applied to measure the level of improvement in both their speaking and listening skills. Ultimately, the study reached the following key findings:The results revealed statistically significant differences at the significance level (α≤0.05) in the mean scores of the English language students' responses in the achievement test, attributed to the method variable. the effect size suggests a large effect (generally, Cohen's d values of 0.8 or above indicate a large effect), indicating that the short story strategy had a substantial impact on enhancing speaking and listening skills among the students. The results showed that the overall scores of English language students in the pre-test (before using the short story strategy) were very low, with a mean (15.94) and a standard deviation (4.465).The results showed that the overall scores of English language students in the post-test (after using the strategy) were at an average level, with a mean (25.89) and a standard deviation (4.702)
