الملخص

The thesis discusses the effects of faulty design and construction factors on maintenance. It describes a survey conducted among 90 construction and maintenance contractors, 30 designers, and 20 owners. The survey identified 67 different faulty factors and ranked them by severity using a severity index. The analysis was performed using the SAS mainframe computer package, with data obtained from interviews and discussions with contractors, consultants, and owners. The research tested a hypothesis that contractors, consultants, and owners generally agree on severity rankings, which was confirmed. The most severe factors identified were Inadequate Structural Design, Unqualified Staff, Wrong Selection of Material, and Non-Compliance with Specification. It also notes that contractors reported the most actual responses, followed by consultants and owners, reflecting their involvement and awareness of maintenance issues. The thesis concludes by suggesting recommendations and topics for future research to minimize maintenance defects and expenditure.
