Artificial Intelligence in Arab media: Developing an ethical framework

الملخص

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in Arab newsrooms offers numerous opportunities to enhance ethical and professional practices of journalists, however, it is also giving rise to many ethical concerns. This research explores the ethical ramifications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Arab media outlets, suggesting a comprehensive ethical framework that takes into consideration the needs of Arab media outlets as well as the socio-cultural, economic and institutional specificities of the Arab journalism ecosystem. Accordingly, this study presents an overview of the main challenges and concerns of AI integration in Arab journalism, and sheds light on the different approaches to address them. Based on the Delphi technique, this paper concludes with a comprehensive ethical framework to ensure ethical standards including credibility, accuracy, transparency, fairness, responsibility, and privacy protection, contributing to scholarly debate around media ethics in the age of Artificial Intelligence, and providing a practical guide for stakeholders navigating AI’s ethical dimensions in Arab journalism.
