Crime news is a staple of new media journalism. However, its captivating nature, often featuring shocking or unusual details, combined with the rapid spread of information through new communication technologies, presents a challenge for media outlets.‌This thesis, entitled (Ethical and Legal Responsibilities of Crime News Coverage in New Media), discusses the positive and negative effects of crime news coverage, and through the interpretation and analysis of relevant legal texts, professional principles, standards and rules of journalistic ethics and judicial decisions, the level of observance of ethical and legal responsibility in the publication of these news, has been evaluated and discussed. Aims to explore several objectives, with a primary focus on assessing the level of scrutiny and engagement of Kurdish new media with crime news. Additionally, it seeks to evaluate the adherence of Kurdish media outlets to ethical and legal responsibilities in reporting crime news within the realm of new media platforms. The study is descriptive and analytical. In order to achieve its goals, the researcher adopted content analysis method, thus the contents of crime news are analyzed. The primary research material comprises crime news sourced from Kurdish new media outlets, specifically Rudaw and Politic Press, spanning the months of January, February, and March in 2023. Content analysis forms the primary tool utilized for conducting the research, facilitating a comprehensive examination of the ethical and legal dimensions of crime news reporting within the Kurdish new media landscape. As a result of analysing and interpreting the data and information obtained from both theoretical and practical aspects and their evaluation, as well as based on the principles, criteria and statistical solutions, the research has reached several conclusions, the most important of which are outlines in three points:1-The new Kurdish media demonstrates a noteworthy emphasis on coveringand disseminating news pertaining to criminal incidents. Particularlyprominent within this coverage are crimes such as murder, as well asincidents involving threats and torture.2-In the new Kurdish media, the ethical standards of crime news have not beenobserved, especially in terms of: biased and objective news, media trail (where the accused is portrayed as guilty by the media), private life and details of criminal events. 3-In the new Kurdish media, adherence to the legal obligations concerning thepublication of crime news is found to be lacking, resulting in violations oflegal principles governing the disclosure of information pertaining to parties involved in criminalcases. Particularly concerning are breaches related tojudicial investigation information, such as the premature disclosure of thename and photograph of the accused, dissemination of their background and purported confession, the publication of names and photographs of accusedi ndividuals who are teenagers.
