الملخص

The present study aims to explore the relationship between self-esteem and oralspeaking productions. The research work is mainly concerned with finding whereby thefeeling of ‘I can do it’ and ‘I am unique’ has any thing to do with learners’ speakingabilities. The main problem we are confronted within this research, What is therelationship between self-esteem and oral productions for first year LMD learners ofenglish ? It is hypothesized in this research work that the more students trust theirabilities, the more likely they are to enhance their speaking abilities in the foreignlanguage. The research methodology adopted in this study is a descriptive one, Itintends to describe two variables : self-esteem as the independent variable and foreignlanguage speaking as the presumed dependent variable, and to identify the relationshipbetween them. Data were gathered through a series of questionnaires administered to asample of 30 students and delivered to 10 teachers at English division in the Universityof Biskra.The results obtained from the present research project showed that there is apositive relationship between students’ self-esteem and their foreign language speakingperformance, and that this relationship affects directly their level of academicachievement in general. A reality that is agreed on by all teachers’ answers to thequestionnaire.Firthermore, the research findings showed an important indication thatthere is no value judgment more important to any learner than the value he gives tohimself when learning the foreign spoken language
