الملخص

This study investigates the characteristic features of a successful teacher of English language from students’ perspective in the River Nile State in the year 2009. The research consists of five chapters. In chapter one the researcher states the problems; that is to see whether a successful English language teacher possesses certain characteristic features or not. It also presents the objectives, the questions, the hypotheses, the significance, and the delimitation of the study as well as defining the important terms used in the research. In chapter two the researcher reviews the topics related to the study such as teaching process, qualities of a successful English teacher, teacher training, teacher evaluation, teacher observation besides other relevant topics. Chapter three deals with the research methodology. It describes the tool, the subjects and procedures. The subjects are tertiary level students, English Department, Faculty of Education and Teacher’s College at Nile Valley University. The other subjects are secondary level students. As far as the tools is concerned, data were collected through a questionnaire which was handed out to students. Chapter four is concerned with data analysis. The present study followed the descriptive analytical methodology in which the questionnaire was employed. After that the data were presented in tables in terms of frequencies and percentages. Finally, the data were analysed and discussed and the researcher came up with the following findings:1- A successful English language teacher possesses professional, personal and academic characteristic features.2- Effective teaching is based on effective lesson planning.3- Knowledge of subject matter is essential for successful teaching.4- Motivating students is an essential factor for successful English language teaching and learning.5- Students can be very valuable in evaluating their English language teachers.6- Corporal punishment is unacceptable way to deal with students’ errors or disruptive behaviour. Finally, chapter five includes conclusions, recommendations and suggestions.

ترجمة الملخص

تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى التعرف على خصائص معلم اللغة الإنجليزية الناجح من وجهة نظر الطلاب في ولاية نهر النيل في العام 2009 م .يشتمل هذا البحث على خمسة أبواب . تناول الباحث في الباب الأول مشكلة البحث والتي تتلخص في معرفة إذا كان معلم اللغة الإنجليزية الناجح يتمتع بصفات محددة أم لا .كما تناول أيضاً الهدف من الدراسة وأسئلة البحث وفروض البحث وأهمية الدراسة وحدودها إضافة إلى تعريفات لأهم مصطلحات البحث .في الباب الثاني تناول الباحث الإطار النظري للدراسة والذي اشتمل على تعريف مفهوم التدريس وخصائص معلم اللغة الإنجليزية الناجح إضافة إلى تدريب وتقويم المعلم إضافة إلى موضوعات أخرى ذات صلة .تناول الباحث في الباب الثالث شرح الطريقة التي اُتُّبِعت في البحث وتحديد عينة البحث والمتمثلة في طلاب قسم اللغة الإنجليزية كلية التربية وكلية المعلمين جامعة وادي النيل بالإضافة إلى طلاب المرحلة الثانوية ومن ثم قام الباحث بجمع المعلومات عن طريق الاستبيان الذي وُزِّع على الطلاب .الباب الرابع تناول تحليل المعلومات حيث اتبع الباحث طريقة الوصف وذلك باستخدام آلية الاستبيان ومن ثم جمعت المعلومات وعُرِضت في جدول في شكل فئات ونسب مئوية . أخيراً قام الباحث بتحليل البيانات ومناقشتها وتوصل إلى النتائج التالية :1.معلم اللغة الإنجليزية الناجح يمتلك خصائص مهنية وشخصية وأكاديمية .2.التدريس الجيد يعتمد على التحضير الجيد للدروس .3.معرفة المعلم للمادة يعتبر أساس التدريس الفعال .4.الدافعية عامل أساسي في العملية التعليمية .5.يستطيع الطلاب تقييم المعلم إذا كان ناجحاً أم لا .6.العقاب البدني غير مقبول في التعامل مع أخطاء أو سلوك الطلاب غير السوي .في الختام تناول الباب الخامس ملخص ونتائج الدراسة وبعض التوصيات والمقترحات .
