The phonetic studies by the old theorists are still need reviewing, in spite of many studies by recent theorists. We still find some difficulties about what the old theorists wanted, and maybe we put them in a mistake. On the basis of thesis (Singular sounds by Abi-Hayyan Al-Andalusi in the light of old and recent studies) as a modest attempt to study phonetic effort of old theorists, rather from new scope. Maybe the thing which motivates us to this subject signs of some moderniters to new methodical work which Abu-Hayyan used, quoted with protract (Al-Tajweed) scientists texts, in addition to grammarians. These things grammarians before him don’t knew. In addition to we found in his opinions and classification of sounds study as a work not empty from renew and inversion, this point the researchers don’t attention to it. In this dissertation, we compared between work of Abi-Hayyan and studiers before and after him about singular researcher, in according to view of modern studies, sounds to know the points of invention of Abi-Hayyan and points which completed by others, and we try to know this researcher consistent with modern studies or no? The scheme of dissertation contains of preface, introduction, two parts, every part contains two chapters. Introduction assigned to certain (the origin of phonic studies by the Arabs) we are certainning about Al-Khaleel’s effort in the preface of his book (Al-Aayn), and we resulted that Al-Khalil don’t want distribute the sounds on the basis on vents, mean study the sounds as singular, Al-Khalil distribution is coming in according to five origins or aims in its positions. We studied in the chapter one of part one foundation of sounds study as a lone at the Abi-Hayyan and Arabic scientists and modern theorists, we mentioned the old theorists who are Abu-Hayyan effected with him and who pursued his method in this study. In addition to we corrected many of concepts and terms which don’t explain by modern theorists as a terms (secret, appearance, strong, weak, increase of objective) etc... The chapter two of part one contains of the vents of sounds, we divided it into two paragraphs, the first paragraph is about the vents of the vowels and semi vowels. The sound paragraph is about arrangement of sounds according to them vents. We ended that Ibu-Hayyan followed apparand of Ibn Al-Sarraj’s distribution, and he have some quoted opinions about arrangement the sounds passed in some and failed in others. We mentioned his influence as: Makki bin Abi Talib, Abu Aamr Al-Dani, and Grammarian as: Ibn Al-Sarraj, Ibn Asfour, Ibn-Malik. We explain the situation of modern studies toward old theorist’s concept with shown the different between its results and old theorist’s results and whom it was a lot of accuracy in all things. The second part we studied in its chapter one the contract characters, they were eight. In addition to the two characters (dark, light). While, the chapter two from this unit contains singular characters, we gave new concepts for these characters according to the view of the olds. We explain points of mixing and inattention, that many of modern theorists felt in it during their studies to this characters. We don’t forgot our discussion in this dissertation to sonic terms by old and modern theorists, we corrected a lot of it, as thanawiyyah, litaiyyah, and thalaqiyyah, etc... We supposed a new terms which were unknown in the sound studies as Al-Sawaiem which faced in the English terms, the term (semi vowel).
