In this study, we examine the subject of Islamic principles and values in the Medina of Constantine for the period preceding French colonization. This research aims to study the relationship of traditional architecture with the Quranic texts through the general principles and Islamic values from the Quranic text and the extent of their application in the traditional architecture of the Constantine Medina. The question lay in the orientation role of the Quranic text towards the application of the traditional architecture of Constantine.In this research, we relied on the method of deduction for the Quranic texts and the method of analysis for the traditional architecture of inferring from the traditional historical architecture and its relation to the Quranic texts and inferring from their interpretations. The inferential process also required extracting premises, on which good observation is based, through which the phenomenon is apprehended in all its historical, architectural and artistic aspects. Thus, tools such as analogy and synthesis wereused in deduction from Quranic texts. The architectural analysis also required a good observation of the phenomenon based on its interpretation, its clarification, then its evaluation in a scientifically correct way to arrive at the deduction by deducing the synthesis of the results.The theoretical part proceeds by introducing some general concepts of art, architecture and tradition and their relationship to Islam.With the choice of Quranic texts to research traditional architecture and its decorative art.This is by defining the terms of the traditional dwelling and its relationship with the Quranic text in the space and architectural configuration, to suit Arab-Islamic privacy. With the development of general principles and higher Islamic values starting with the Quranic text in traditional architecture and ending with the presentation of important examples in the Mediterranean countries.The applications of the research included the research of traditional architecture and its building elements and materials mentioned in the Quranic texts through interpretation and deduction. Then a historical study in the Medina of Constantine from the period of antiquity to the period before the French colonization. The analytical study of the traditional Constantine habitation was a prelude to the study of the traditional architecture in the Medina of Constantine for the Islamic period and the period of the Ottoman mandate.The study deals with the impact of the Quranic text with the traditional architecture and decorative art in the Medina of Constantine during the Islamic period and under the Ottoman mandate. It also proves that the Quranic text has always been the main source of guidance for all details of architecture since the earliest Islamic cities, and that architectural elements throughout Islamic history are one of the areas to which the man became interested in using the decorative elements, developing them and being creative.It should be noted that the traditional architecture in the Medina of Constantine is characterized by the uniformity of its architectural applications and the continuity in the application of local architectural traditions during the period of the Ottoman mandate, as well as by a great architectural diversity and artistic marked by the addition of new Ottoman traditions to the traditional architecture of Constantine.
