Knowledge of Primipara Mothers towards Newborn Care In Omdurman - Maternity Hospital , Khartoum state, Sudan (2016)

الملخص

Inadequate knowledge among primipara in caring of newborn, especially during the early period at home may cause newborn morbidity and mortality. This descriptive hospital based study was conducted aimed to assessing primipara mothers knowledge and attitude in taking care of a newborn at Omdurman maternity specialized hospital in Khartoum state in Sudan 2017 .The study sample consist of (71 mothers who attended in Omdurman maternity hospital in postnatal word and a out Patient clinic during the period of study from (october2016 to march 2017). data were gathered via a questionnaire designed for the study containing general and specific information about knowledge of primipara mothers on newborncare. Data collected and analyzed using statistical package for social science (SPSS) version 21. . The findings of the study showed that(63.4%) of participants belong to the age group of (20-27 ) years (57.7%) were housewife .the study revealed that (55.3%) of the study samples they knew information about newborn. More than half of respondents have good knowledge toward feeding newborn score is(60.9%) only score of one third (40.9%)of the study samples aware of cord care ,(55.6%) aware of bathing new born . about half ( 50.1%) of study sample have knowledge about Physiological functions of New born.. The study concluded that there is vital need to improve the knowledge and awareness in the mothers toward newborn care. The study recommended that certain components of the essential newborn care package need more emphasisduring education programmes including bathing, and proper care of the umbilical cord.
