الملخص

The invention of the laser produced plasma in the mid-1970s led to increase in knowledge on interaction between electromagnetic fields and matter. Laser-produced plasmas are applied to various areas in different fields of science. The main objective of this study was to determine mineral composition of tumorgenic and normal tissues using Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) aiming at identification of biophysical markers that could be used for further identification of tumorgenic tissues. Experiments were conducted at Laser Institute-Sudan University of Science and Technology in 2015, using the Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with three replications. Potato discs treated with Agrobacterium tumefaceins before three weeks ago and had exhibited an apparent tumor growth ’of more than 50% were used in this study; Whereas, untreated fresh potato discs were used as control. Q-switched Nd: YAG laser was used to determine presence of different elements. The energy of 60 and 100 mJ were focused on targeted samples at atmospheric pressure. The tumorgenic tissues showed spectral lines to nine elements at (HI -434.54 and 656.99,FeI -438.6, CaI -558.04, FI-623.64, NeI -638.19,NI-744.39 and 868.38, OI -777.14, PaI-809.03)nanometer( nm) for 60mill jule (mJ), and spectral lines at (PbI -363, HI -434.2 and 656.9, HgI -549.8, and CII -687.6) nm for 100 mJ. Whereas, the normal tissues showed spectral lines at (FeI -248.7 and 374.9, PI -253.6, MgI -285.8,CaI -558.9, LiI -610.9, HI -671, NI -744.3, SII -796.7)nm for 60mJ and spectral lines at (GeI -195.2, PI -253.5, PbII -424.95, HI -486.4&656.3, CaI -558.3, KrI -587.2, NI -746.9, OI -777.1, SII -796.9) nm for 100 mJ. It was concluded that Normal tissues exhibited sulfur 796.7nm at 60 mJ and 100mJ and phosphorus 253.5 at 60 and 100 mJ which were absent in the tumorgenic tissues. In contrast, turmeric tissues exhibited the radioactive element PaI 809.03,NeI 638.19at 60 mJ and CII 687.6 at 100 mJ and the heavy elements PbI 363, HgI 549. Results pointed out presence of radioactive and heavy elements as one of the mechanisms that could alter normal tissues into tumorgenic tissues. Further work is needed in this regard to mark some elements that could be used as biophysical markers for detection of tumorgenic tissues.
