Effect of Lupinus termis (Turmus) on the levels of blood glucose , cholesterol and triglycerides of diabetic patients

الملخص

lupinus termis was chosen for this study, because it canbe used as an edible crop . The aims of this study were toinvestigate the effect of the seeds of this plant on blood glucose,cholesterol and triglyceride levels in Non Insulin DependentDiabetes Mellitus Sudanese patients (NIDDM).This study was conducted in 40 randomly selectedNIDDM (certified) Sudanese patients 20 males and 20 females(30-60years old) control groups of 20 healthy individuals malesand females was used in this study . Blood samples were collectedfrom all respondents before and after treatments, all of therespondents were given75g of termis daily for seven days and thediabetic patients were advised to use their normal prescribedhypoglycemic drugs .Results of the study indicated that blood glucose levels ofdiabetic patients (40) were significantly higher (p<0.001) relativeto that of control group. Likewise the diabetic patients showedsignificantly higher blood cholesterol (p<0.05) and T.G (p<0.05)compared to that of the control group respectively. Treatment ofall respondent with lupinus termis decreased significantly all ofthe measurement parameters .In conclusion, diabetic patients with hyperglycemia andhyperlipidemia can use soaked lupinus termis seeds, whichexhibited a hypoglycemic effect on NIDDM and healthyindividuals.
