- Jahiliyah Poem consists of three major pillars: Introduction, body and sestet. The poem' introductions and bodies were well studied by contemporary and ancient critics and writers. But sestets were not studied as well as introductions and bodies; in addition, they were not favored by critics and contemporary writers. They mentioned sestet in either a small article or a chapter from book. Furthermore, some see it is not part of the poem, but it is merely part of the body. Sestet has an important position in poem structure, which was indicated by ancient writers, critics and rhetoricians' views. This dissertation aims to study sestet of pre-Islamic poems objectively and subjectively. It should be a basis which other researches depended upon to show up details of these sestets in specific problems and issues, or tribal poetry group of pre-Islamic poets. This dissertation contains many chapters and parts which study a lot of problems and issues, divided into two sections. Each one consists of a number of parts. The first section is about theoretical studies of a sestet term. It includes studying the origin of the term, and the issues that ancient and contemporary writers, critics and rhetoricians have studied. The first chapter studies the origin of the term and shows meaning in ancient researches. In addition, it gives an introduction about the renewal of traditional term. Then it studies the meaning's changes in linguistic books and old Arabic lexicons. The second part shows the transmission of the sestet from a dictionary word to a term. After that I study its meanings in the science of literature, criticism and rhetoric. As a result, we have five meanings which establish the theme of the third part. The third part reveals the ancients' different attitudes about establishing the meaning of the sestet. I have chosen the best meaning from ancient writers' views to define the sestet. The definition I introduce is based on two previous dissertations. The second chapter studies pre-Islamic poetry sestets. It gives an introduction about the ancient critics and rhetoricians' interest of these sestets. This chapter is divided into four parts. The first part is about the synonyms of the sestet. The second part shows the ancients' interest of the sestet. The third part talks about the important features of the sestet. The last part is about what poets should avoid in writing sestets. The third chapter deals with pre-Islamic poetic sestets studied by contemporary critics. The first part talks about the sestet term in new dictionaries. The second part shows contemporary critics' interest of their books and critical studies. The third part is about the modern academic researches which study pre-Islamic poetry sestets. The second section is about the practical studies about pre-Islamic poetry sestets and their meanings, themes and some related issues. The section contains four chapters. The first chapter deals with the sestet and the Jahiliyah Poem. (A study in consciousness and themes). It is divided into two parts. The first is about the poet's consciousness of the sestet. The second is about the themes of the Jahiliyah sestets and their meanings. The second chapter talks about the rhetorical issues that are related to the Jahiliyah sestets. It studies the simple and compound structure of sestets. The third chapter proposes a new issue about the sestet which is opposing the poem's sestet which is called Albater by the ancients. The last chapter is the summary of the dissertation. It shows the relation between sestets and bodies and the importance of sestets in achieving the unity of the poem. This study concludes that most sestets are related to their bodies. The relationship between sestets and bodies has two types: congruence and difference. The gist of this study is the poetry of Pre-Islamic poets except for Almukhadramin and those who have poetry published in books or magazines or a tribe's volume. And thus The number of the poets are forty; and the poems are 497.In conclusion, this dissertation is a critical and a literary work which is interested in the pre-Islamic sestets. This dissertation could be further studied by other researches i.e. stylistic, rhetorical or semantic on a wide range.
