Purpose: To evaluate the effect of obesity and diabetes mellitus on wound infection after cesarean section (CS).Setting: Al-Assad University Hospital, Lattakia, Syria.Methods: 2178 women had cesarean section at Al-Assad University Hospital during 2014-2015. We documented the occurrence of wound infections after CS, and evaluated the effect of obesity and diabetes on the incidence rate.Results:The incidence of wound infection was 1.19% (26 cases), the obesity and diabetes were significant risk factors (P<0.05), the infection rate was increasing with higher BMI (2.67% for BMI>30 Kg/m2; 0.81% for BMI=26-30 Kg/m2; 0.4% for BMI<26 Kg/m2). The incidence rate of diabetes was 1.88%, and the infection rate was 24.39% in diabetec women. The HbA1c was higher in infected diabetic women (9.1±2.4 vs 7.2±2.3; P<0.05).Conclusion: Obesity and diabetes are an important risk factors for wound infection after cesarean section,
