This study was carried out in Basrah Oil Company, which is one of the most important companies in Iraq. The study consists of three parts: Part I: This part was a descriptive, record-based study carried out to estimate the mortality rates among the employees Basrah Oil Company for the years 2017 and 2018.The records of the employees who died during the period from 1st of January 2017 to 31st of December 2018 were collected. The results of this part showed that the mortality rate among employee increased with advancing age and female had a lower mortality rate in comparison to male. The commonest causes of death among the company employees were the external causes of mortality like accidents, assaults, or events of undetermined intent (V01-Y98), and malignant neoplasms (C00-C97). Also, the study showed that the observed mortality among the company employees was less than expected. So that the mortality in the Basrah Oil Company was lower than that in Basrah Governorate. Part II: This part was a descriptive, record-based study, carried out to study the morbidity pattern among Basrah Oil Company employees over a two years period (2018 and 2019).The employee's sickness absence records for the years 2018 and 2019 were collected; these data were obtained from the records of the company's health care center at Bab Al-Zubair. The results showed that the commonest leading causes for sickness absences among employees were the musculoskeletal diseases (M00 -M99) followed by injuries, poisoning, and certain other consequences of external causes (S00 -T98). Female employees tend to get more frequent sickness absences and longer duration in comparison to the male employees. Part III: This part was a cross-sectional comparative study that focuses on studying the effect of exposure to the hazardous agent in the workplace with special reference to the development or exacerbation of allergic diseases among Basrah Oil Company employees. The exposed group (employees in the production department at Nahr Bin Umr) was compared to the non-exposed comparison group (employees in the administrative department at Bab Al-Zubair).The results showed that the employees with occupational exposure to crude oil and associated gas (the study group) were more likely to complain of allergic diseases in comparison to the non-exposed group. Similarly, the total IgE level was found to be higher among the exposed group. The personal history of atopy was the most significant factor affecting the total IgE level These finding suggest the association between workplace exposure to crude oil and associated gases with the allergic disease.
