Exploring Techniques For Promoting EFL Learners’ Oral Communication Skill: A case study of Wad-Medani Secondary Schools' EFL Teachers, Gezira State, Sudan (2017)

الملخص

English is the most commonly spoken language in the world. Many countries include English as a second or foreign language in their schools syllabus and children start learning English at a young age. Some techniques come to promote learners' oral communication in English through using it. The study aimed at exploring the kinds of effective techniques which help the learners to communicate orally in English, getting EFL teachers aware of the most appropriate techniques for teaching oral communication and suggesting the effective techniques that enhance students English oral communication. The descriptive analytical method was followed for conducting the study. The sample consisted of (30) EFL teachers at Wad-Medani secondary schools. A questionnaire was used as a tool for collecting data. The data was analyzed through computer {SPSS} program. The following findings were reached: Providing classes with audiovisual materials will encourage EFL learners to learn English, team work helps EFL learners in promoting their oral communication in English. In addition, computer-assisted learning will improve learners' oral communication in English. It is also found that selected English educational songs will enhance EFL learners' oral communication in English, watching up-to date English plays can improve learners’ oral communication, dialogue is a good way to get learners to practice oral communication technique, simulation technique provides a more relaxed classroom environment which makes learners feel free and confident in applying oral communication. The study recommends that providing classes with audiovisual materials to encourage learners' to practice English oral communication, teaching and learning through computer-assisted should be encouraged to promote learners' oral communication, English syllabus mustconcentrate on English songs and that will improve learners' oral performance in English. In addition, learners must watch English plays twice a week to promote their oral communication. Finally, teachers should encourage learners to work and speak with each other to improve their oral communication.
