The aim of this research is to explore the poetic and artistic features in a number of Arabic poetry texts during the Um ayyad period, by raising the question of poeticness through specific applied poetic models of the art of Naqaid. This contemporary question means undertaking an objective study of literary texts to highlight their unique characteristics. Poeticness is an achievement of modern critical theory and displacement is the most prominent form of it. Displacement is a term disputed by many fields of knowledge, including modern linguistics and literary criticism.It is well known that displacement exists in both ancient and modern Arabic literature, so it was possible to make a comparison between modern knowledge and heritage knowledge in this field. Thus, this thesis tends to look into two aspects: the first is an attempt to recognise the uniqueness of the art of Naqaid (oppositions) and its distinctive features, and the second concerns utilising the achievements of ancient and modern, Arabic and Western criticism.This research is divided into three parts: an introduction and two chapters. The introduction contains several points about the concept of displacement and a research into some of its phenomena in the ancient texts and then in the modern Arab and Western criticism studies. Moreover, it highlights the issue of Naqaid and its origins, poets and related topics. The first chapter includes topics about the structural displacement in the Naqaid. It studies some its aspects such as deletion, apostrophe and anastrophe. In the second chapter, the researcher focuses on the concept of displacement at the level of poetic content by studying the consequence of meanings, ideas and subjects in the Naqaid, such as women, social values, gray hair and complaint, as well as the particular details of poem openings and their technical and moral relationship to the rest of the poem. This was based on the descriptive analytical approach, with certain aspects of some other approaches, such as the statistical, structural and historical methods, being used wherever necessary.The researcher reached a number of conclusions, including that displacement revealed how the Naqaid poet viewed the world around him, and how his view of his own self, space and time as well as his view of the other (friends, women and opponents) were thus displaced. It also showed poeticness through the subjectivity, which distinguished it from the pre-Islamic poetry. These were all combined to achieve the dual functional goal of the art of Naqaid, which is the victory for the self, with all its ideas, emotions, attitudes and belonging to the tribe; the removal of the opponent and the attempt to eliminate it artistically
