الملخص

Esophageal diseases are common disease classified into esophageal diverticulum (Zenker diverticula), heterotopia, esophageal cyst, esophageal web and rings, achalasia. Esophagitis include infectious esophagitis, esinophilic esophagitts and reflux esophagitis.Barrett esophagus is one of the esophageal disorders .Benign lesions include leiomyoma, lymphangioma, hemangioma, granulosa cell tumor and glycogenic acanthasis. Squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma are the most common type of esophageal cancer. The aim of this study to evaluate the histopathologic features of endoscopic esophageal biopsies and sociodemographics correlation in central Sudan, A retrospective study from January 2015 to december 2019.276 patients were included in this study .Male 39.1%, female 60.5% .The range of age 10-81years, most of the diseases occur in age group 71-80 years (28.6%). locality distribution show Gezira state 130 (47.1%), Al Gadarif 35 (12.7%),Sinnar 27 (9.8%),Kassala 24 (8.7%),White Nile 12(4.3%). Kawahla and Bne Amer show the most common tribe in which esophageal cancer occurs 17(6.2%).The most common site of biopsy from lower esophagus( 60.4% ), followed by middle esophagus( 22.3%), and upper esophagus (15.1%).The result show chronic nonspecific esophagitis in 31 (11.2%),Achalasia 1(0.3%),barrettes esophagus in 4 (1.4%), Sqeuamous cell carcinoma(Scc) in 182(65.9%),adenocarcinoma in 33 (11.9%).Scc more common occur in the lower esophagus (38%) and more common in female (45.5%) than male(21.2%), while adenocarcinoma more common in the lower esophagus(11.9) and more common in male (8.3%) than female (3.3%).The result of habits show smokers (3.6%) tobacco user (2.9%) .Conclusion: Esophageal carcinoma is the most common esophageal disorder. Squamous cell carcinoma more common than adenocarcinoma and most of` them they located in lower esophagus.Esophageal carcinoma more common in Gezira state and more common in Kwahlla and Banne ammer .Small percentage of patients who were diagnosed of esophageal carcinoma were smoker and tobacco user. Recommendation: Create good relationship between clinician and pathologist, create good screening program and encourage for more studies and research's in esophageal zone.
