Formocresol (FC) has been used in pulpotomy for primary teeth for decades. However, researcher have been searching for safe alternatives, because of its potential risks. Recently,MTA (Mineral Trioxide Aggregate)has been used inpulpotomy and it has been observed a similarity between Portland cement (PC) and MTA,but MTAis very expensive compared with Port landcement. Therefore,the aim of this study was to evaluate the effectivity of Portland cement in the success of pulpotomy in primary teeth comparing with form ocresol and MTA. Materials and methods:A total of sixty-nine children aged (6-8 years) having 90-second primary mandibular molars which were selected for traditional pulpotomy treatment.The teeth was divided randomly to be treated with PC, FC,or MTA. A routine pulpotomy was performed after the administration of local anesthetic and isolation with rubber dam, and then placed PC or FC or MTA techniques materials on the radical pulp then rain force dzinc-oxide eugenol paste (IRM) was applied. Teeth were finally restored by composite, and children were observed at baseline 3, 6,and 9 months.Results:The clinical success rates after a period of observation 9 months was 96.7% for Portland cement,100% for MTA and 86.7% for Form ocresol .Statistical study did not show a significant difference statistically at p <0.05.The radio graphical success rates of 96.7% for portl and cement and 100% for MTA and 83.3% for form ocresol after a period of 9 months observation,and statistical study did not shows statistically significant differences between the three groups after three and six months. However, there was statistically significant differences between the form ocresol group and each of the two groups of Portland cement and MTA after 9 months with a superiority of the Portland cement and MTA groups on form ocresol group atp <0.05.Conclusion: Portland cement pulpotomy could be a good alternative to Form ocresol and MTA in pulpotomy in primary teeth
