Onychomycosis is a fungal infection of the nail apparatus caused by dermatophytes, yeasts or molds. It is cosmopolitan and represents about 50% of onychopathies. We conducted a retrospective study in subjects aged less than 50 years during a period of 8 years,carried out in the dermatology department of the University Hospital of Tizi-Ouzou. A number of 9515 patient records are reviewed revealing that 162 subjects had the disease, a prevalence of 1,7 %. Women are the most susceptible to the disease. Onychomycosis is common in patients between the ages of 40 and 49 and rare in children.Toenail involvement is the most common with 43% of cases. Paronychia is the most common associated lesion in affected individuals. The most involved fungi are yeasts (55% of cases) followed by dermatophytes (39% of cases) then by the association of yeasts and dermatophytes (5% of cases) and lastly, molds (1%
